Fall 2024

LETTERS FROM THE LAKESIDE
Fall in Upstate South Carolina is a truly magical time of year. As the cooler temperatures begin to settle in, the region transforms into a breathtaking display of autumn colors. The rolling hills and mountainous terrain, part of the Blue Ridge Mountains, come alive with vibrant hues of red, orange, and yellow. The crisp, clear air makes outdoor activities all the more enjoyable, offering a refreshing contrast to the hot and humid summer months.

Fall festivals and events play a significant role in the Upstate. Events like the Fall for Greenville festival bring the streets to life with food, music, and arts, providing a perfect opportunity to sample the culinary and cultural highlights of the region. Farmers' markets brimming with seasonal produce like pumpkins, apples, and squash create a vibrant, harvest-themed atmosphere.

In addition to its natural beauty and cultural vibrancy, Upstate South Carolina’s fall weather is a perfect mix of cool mornings and mild afternoons. The comfortable temperatures make it ideal for outdoor adventures, from visiting local vineyards and orchards to enjoying football games, tailgating, and bonfires. Whether you're admiring the scenery, enjoying local traditions, or simply relaxing with the pleasant weather, fall is a season of celebration and serenity.

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Neighbors,

As the colors of fall begin to appear, I hope this letter finds you well and excited for the season ahead! It’s hard to believe summer is already behind us, but what a fantastic summer it was!

I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in our summer events, from the lively luau to the Fourth of July festivities. It was wonderful to see so many of you come out and enjoy these gatherings, as well as take full advantage of the pool during those warm summer days. The sense of community we experienced was truly special, and it’s a reminder of what makes our neighborhood such a great place to live.

I would also like to extend an extra thank you to all of the volunteers and sponsors for the Fourth of July celebration. The events were seamless thanks to the incredible help and generous donations we received. Your support truly helped make this the best Fourth yet!

As we transition into fall, I’d like to invite everyone to join us for our upcoming Neighborhood Workday on October 26. It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together to keep our community looking beautiful and enjoyable for all. Whether you can lend a hand with some light yard work, help tidy up common areas, or offer assistance in other ways, your involvement will make a big difference.

Let’s keep the momentum from our summer events going and make this fall just as great! I look forward to seeing you on October 26, and as always, thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm.

President, HLPOA

FOURTH OF JULY RECAP
We hope you all enjoyed 2024's 4th of July party here at Heritage Lakes. We sure did. Generous donations from residents, board members and Title Sponsor, Premier Plumbing, had us come very close to meeting our goal of $4,000 having raised $3,746. Next year we hope to do even better.

Thank you to all that responded to our after the event survey... we'll use many of your suggestions to make next year's event even better. If you want to relive the day, watch our recap video of all the day's events.

BOARD MEMBERS NEEDED!
Volunteering for the Board can be a rewarding experience.
The Heritage Lakes Property Owners Association is staffed by your neighbors – fellow property owners like you who call this neighborhood home. They volunteer their time and talents to do the work of managing the community including but not limited to: overseeing maintenance needs; vendor relationships; collecting fees; organizing social events; clubhouse rentals; creating and maintaining our website, social media and email communications; and responding to the needs of our community members.

It takes a team to do it and we need you to help us replace Board members who are stepping down, many of whom have served several times and for many years. If you're new to our community joining the Board is an excellent way to meet your neighbors and strike up new friendships.

Will you step up and volunteer? Email us and let us know.

TRUNK OR TREAT?

Would you take part?

Charis Burger wants to survey the community to see if there's enough interest to put on a Halloween "Trunk or Treat" on Sunday, October 13th from 2 - 4pm. It's a great way to safely bring the kids out in costume to fill their bags with all sorts of tasty treats.... or maybe some scary, fun and entertaining tricks. We'll host the event in our clubhouse parking lot and encourage you all to use your creativity in spookily decorating your cars, trucks or golf carts.

Email us if you're interested in participating – whether that's bringing your kids, a decorated vehicle and treats, or just willing to help. Deadline to reply is October 6th!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We're asking for community members to volunter a few hours of their time to help maintain our common grounds. Meet us at the clubhouse on October 26th from 9:00am to Noon. We'll be doing general clean-up and beautification chores to keep our community looking it's best.

If you can, please email us letting us know you'll be there – the more helpers we can count on, the more we'll get done!

YARDS OF THE MONTH…
One of the things that makes Heritage Lakes a great place to call home is the loving care that many of our residents put into their landscapes. Some look like they the came straight out of Better Homes & Gardens magazine. We know how much time and effort goes into creating and maintaining a gorgeous landscape and truly appreciate those that do it so well. So much so that we designed new signage to recognize our monthly winners.

Here's the winners from August and September.

AUGUST: The Hodgkinsons at 602 Harness Trail
SEPTEMBER: The Barrons at 101 Steeplechase Ct.

ANNUAL HLPOA MEETING

All homeowners are asked to attend.

Our Annual Heritage Lakes Property Owners Association Meeting will be held on November 10th, 2024 at 3:00pm but we suggest you arrive 15 minutes ahead of time for check-in. Meetings generally last about 90 minutes and we strongly recommend that you all attend.

If you cannot, look out for a mailed notice that includes a Proxy Form so you can appoint the Board of Directors, or someone else you designate, to vote in your place. Important issues like next year's budget, where we are regarding paying off our lake repair loan, recommended facilities repairs and upgrades as well as other issues will be discussed and decided.

We hope to see you there!

2024 SWIM TEAM RECAP
The 2024 Heritage Lakes Blue Wave Swim Team has had a remarkable season, filled with notable achievements that reflect both the dedication of our athletes and the strength of our community. Our volunteers logged over 1,250 hours of service, earning national recognition with the prestigious President's Volunteer Service Award, presented by the White House. Additionally, Russ and Suzanne Kelly were celebrated with our Lifetime Achievement Award for over two decades of unwavering commitment to the swim team.

The team claimed its third consecutive Founders Cup Trophy, a testament to our swimmers' ability to score more points per swimmer than any other team in our division, despite our relatively small size. This exceptional feat was also recognized by Governor Henry McMaster in a personal letter, which now proudly hangs in our clubhouse alongside our other awards. These accolades highlight the strong partnership we’ve fostered between the HOA and the swim team, which continues to enrich the community.

This season also marked one of the best in our team's history. 49 swimmers earned the Ironman Award by legally completing all strokes before the end of the regular season, while 16 all-time records were set. On the competitive front, 20 athletes qualified in 53 events for the end-of-year Championships, placing them in the top 5% in the county. Additionally, 8 athletes qualified in 15 events for the Classics meet, ranking in the top 3% of the county.

We extend our gratitude to the POA for their continued support and are proud to represent Heritage Lakes positively in both competition and community spirit. Our accomplishments, both on and off the pool deck, serve as lasting memories for our swimmers and a source of pride for all involved.
